Tickling Death

May 31, 9:50 p.m.

Rebecca wakes up clueless, but her blood's salty taste reminds her of everything. She shivers. The sound of the engine and wheels hitting the road is all that she can sense without opening her eyes. She feels a bandage rolled around her arm and different clothes. There is no bleeding, but her hand is pulsing with pain and burning her up with a severe headache. She moves her fingers a little to ensure her arm is still intact and functioning.

The touch of the door beside her tells her she is in the passenger seat. What time is it? How long has she been unconscious? She hears a strange voice, a female voice. It takes seconds until she understands it’s the navigator. It announces they are only nine miles from their destination.

"Stop pretending that you are sleeping. I know you’re awake," Romeo says.

Trying to earn more time to think of how to survive or get out of the lion's den, Rebecca keeps her eyes closed.

Suddenly, he starts tickling her armpit.

She tries to resist freaking out until the last moment when she fails and opens her eyes. "Leave me alone!” she yells. “Don't ever touch me, don't."

"Chill out. I just missed your knife, didn’t you?"

It seems he is joking, but his tone freaks her out. "What is wrong with you?” She says, trying to hide her fear. “First, you shoot me. Now you tickle me?"

“Wrong question. You should ask me why I didn’t kill you yet.”

"What do you want? Can't you see I’m injured and can't do any good for you?”

"Before you continue with your handicap excuses, listen. If you are still functioning, you will stay alive. If you aren't, you will not. So, I'm putting the matter in your hands.”

Shocked and speechless, Rebecca focuses on the road in front of them, counting the white lines as she does whenever she is anxious.

“Either you'll be an asset or a liability. Be an asset, and stay above land or be a liability, and I will shove you under the ground.”

She looks at him, trying to read his mind. He’s fucked up. A psychopath. Picturing how he shot her, now she is more certain than ever he will carry out his warnings.

Romeo's fists tighten on the steering wheel before he touches his gun.

"Are you going to shoot me again?"

"No, I don't have that luxury anymore. I don't have the stomach, time, or tools to keep the car cabin clean, so I will choke you until you die and throw you out of the car while it moves."

"You are not a human being. You are a monster."

"I never said I was human. I was still to be one until now, so let me give you a piece of advice. Can I?"

"Do I have a choice?"

"No, you don't!"

"I’m listening."

"If you want to die, die alone, and don't be the reason for the death of your baby. Don't let it pay for your foolishness'"

"Can you give me a break to think--?"

He glances at the time on the dashboard.
